About the whale-watching
adventure cruise
AVIP

Enjoy a magical Alaskan adventure cruise that guarantees a humpback whale sighting!

SCANIA is the premier whale-watching boat in Juneau. Built in 2001, SCANIA has a catamaran hull and is designed for wildlife viewing. Relax in the warm and comfortable main cabin as you cruise the deep fjords of Saginaw and Favorite Channels, or Lynn Canal and Stephens Passage, a pristine wildlife area that is world-renowned as a favorite summer feeding ground for North Pacific whales. Enroute and on scene we will explain the behaviors and biology of these, the largest species of mammals on earth.

Once whales are sighted, "Captain Jack" will maneuver SCANIA to allow for exceptional viewing and photo opportunities without disturbing the whales. These giants, ELEVEN times the size of an elephant, will amaze you with their gracefulness and power. Bring a warm jacket and take advantage of the topside observation deck or open deck aft.  If conditions allow, an underwater hydrophone will be deployed to give you the opportunity to hear the Humpbacks’ incredible “singing.”

While enjoying the spectacular experience of America's Last Frontier, you are treated to Alaskan snacks and water. We guarantee you will see at least one whale or you receive a 100% refund as you disembark. Don’t anticipate a refund; whales have been sighted on every tour SCANIA has ever made!

Also unique to our company, we offer a 100% refund if you get seasick. If you get seasick we don’t want to add to your misery by making you pay! However, SCANIA is so steady that although we have provided tours for over 5,000 visitors, no one has ever been seasick!

A typical whale-watching adventure cruise arrives in the vicinity of humpback whales within about 15 - 30 minutes from departure from the dock. If Orcas are known to be transiting the area, we will normally try to view them first, as they swim very fast, and on the infrequent occasions they are passing through are only within range for a matter of hours.

In addition to viewing hump-back whales, and occasionally Orcas,  we usually also view Steller Sea Lions and Bald Eagles. When time and routing permit, we will return via a route permitting the view of the Mendenhall Glacier as seen on our "Home Page."

During a typical adventure cruise we provide free bottled water and Alaskan snacks.

We not only guarantee your viewing whales, but also guarantee your timely return from the trip in sufficient time to meet your Cruise Ship departure. (We have never yet had to make good on these guarantees.)

We offer several different whale-watching and fishing tours and would be pleased to send you details upon request. Information can be reuested or Reservations can be made by e-mailing us at Info or by telephoning toll-free to 877-586-3466. To confirm a reservation we require a deposit of 50% that is fully refundable up to seven days prior to the scheduled date.

If the SCANIA is unable to provide the service due to unforeseen problems (illness, mechanical, etc.), we will either place you with another licensed boat and skipper or refund your money.
